The power of cards: a script for the unspeakable
One of our most successful tools at Beanmachine is our card sets, such as “Pick & Tell.” These sets work because they offer participants a subtle structure — a “script” — to navigate difficult or complex topics. The cards provide guidance and help make unspoken issues discussable. Whether it’s leadership dilemmas, team dynamics, or personal development, the questions and prompts on our cards help break taboos and foster honest, open conversations.
Our interventions, supported by purposefully designed tools, help us initiate this movement. These aren’t superficial gimmicks but strategically crafted resources that mobilize groups and naturally facilitate complex conversations. For us, “learning through play” is an opportunity to foster deeper insights and meaningful change.

Our tools play a crucial role in the Reflection and Results phases of the ART2R approach. They help facilitate the reflection process and link it to real-life applications. By providing participants with a clear framework, our tools support the translation of insights into concrete actions. Workshops are no longer one-off events; the tools help participants maintain momentum and ensure long-term progress.
Learning through play
Learning through play might sound informal, but it’s one of the most effective ways to achieve deep insights. When participants are actively engaged — both physically and mentally — the learning process becomes not only faster but also more enduring. This principle, derived from the Kaospilot approach and Kolb’s research, shows that people learn best when they don’t just observe but actively do. They need to go through discomfort, frustration, and confusion to achieve breakthroughs.
